What is 4K?
4K resolution, also called Ultra HD, UHD, or simply 4K, refers to programming and televisions that provide a higher resolution than High Definition. 4K TVs and programming deliver roughly 4 times the number of pixels on the screen than regular HD, which results in clearer pictures. The extra pixels also allow more opportunities for nuanced colors and create a higher level of picture quality.
How do I get 4K with Astound Broadband?
Ultra High Definition (UHD), also known as 4K viewing, is currently available to Astound TV customers. Watching programs in 4K quality requires a few things – a 4K TV (customer owned) and a source that provides content in Ultra HD / 4K. Certain Astound equipment powered by TiVo is capable of delivering 4K resolution programs to your TV. If you have a 4K television set and a 4K capable set-top box or 4K streaming device from Astound, you can view 4K content. To watch 4K shows available through streaming services you’ll also need an internet connection and a separate streaming subscription (like Netflix). To view Special Events channel 1526, you will need to subscribe to Signature TV.
How do I know if my TV is 4K?
Your TV user manual should contain information based on the make & model. You can also conduct a web search using your TV’s make and model to determine if it is 4K capable. Note that Netflix Ultra HD 4K streaming may only be available on specific TV models. Please consult your TV’s user manual or your device manufacturer to see if your TV supports 4K.
Where can I find 4K content?
Today, 4K programming is becoming available as TV networks begin releasing more 4K shows and sports. Netflix, YouTube and other streaming services already provide a variety of shows and movies in 4K or “Mastered in 4K”, which can be accessed directly on your 4K TV. You may need an additional subscription from these streaming services to access their 4K content – please contact streaming providers directly for more info on subscription levels. How do I upgrade to get 4K?
A 4K TV (customer owned), 4K set-top box or 4K streaming device, and internet service (100MB or < recommended). To view Special Events channel 1526 from Astound, you will need to subscribe to Signature TV. Also, customers who do not have the NEW TiVo Experience and want to add 4K will need to upgrade all TiVo boxes in the home.
Can I record 4K on my DVR?
Yes. Remember that 4K content is much richer than HD and will take up more space.
